When you run your own business, taking a vacation may seem like a luxury that you will never be able to afford. But we all know that vacations are great ways to relax, rejuvenate and relieve stress. You will be better for having taken a vacation; it’s just getting a holiday in the first place. So get out your planning tools because we have a strategy for how you can finally swing that time off!
Plan ahead: Your whole life as an entrepreneur is all about planning – so why shouldn’t you plan ahead for your vacation? By booking the time in advance and staying firm to that timeline, you can then organize yourself. Work a little more before and after so that your work load is light (or preferably non-existent) while you are away. Delay major projects until after your vacation, and enjoy the benefits of tackling them with a refreshed mind and body.
Set boundaries: You may not be able to completely let things go when you hit the road. That’s okay. Just set some realistic boundaries for work on the go. Setting specific times for emails and phone calls is a great way to keep in touch yet enjoy your time away.
Use your time to reconnect with your family or friends. When you are a busy business owner, sometimes your relationships suffer. Make sure that when you take time off to vacation, you use that time to put more effort and care into your relationships with your spouse, children and friends. Take all the extra energy that you devote to work and put it into making your time together count. You may find that it will help you put more effort into your relationships when you get home!
Take some time to have fun! Vacations are supposed to be fun, so put the business out of your head and really have some fun. Go outside your comfort zone and make some wonderful memories that will inspire you for years to come!
It may be hard to book that vacation time, but it will be worth it. A little holiday can rejuvenate you in so many ways, and your business will improve because you are relaxed and ready to go when you get home!
