Warm weather is right around the corner. Plants are blooming, the grass needs to be mowed, and the warm sun is tickling your skin… Spring is here! This means it is time to get off the couch and go outside. Are you looking for fun and interesting things to get your family outside with you? If so, check out the tips below. You and your family will “spring” into action with these!
Pick flowers. While you probably do not want your prize tulips plucked, look for daffodils! They are much more plentiful. If you want to jazz up your daffodils and throw in some science, try this. It’s a great time to remind your children (and yourself) that you do not pick flowers out of other people’s gardens without asking first.
Plant a garden. You do not have to till up a 5 acre spot… a nice row in the backyard will be fine. Let everyone pick what they would like to grow. Research the plant and learn how to properly grow it. Have each child be responsible for their own seeds, including planting, growing, watering, picking, etc. If you choose to grow vegetables, plan a dinner around the harvest. While it may seem boring at first, once the garden begins to grow and produce, your kids will be excited. After all, they helped do it!
Crack the windows. Let the fresh air in and take the winter stuffiness out of the house! Nothing makes you want to go outside like the warm, fresh breeze flowing through the house. If you can’t go outside, the incoming air will bring some outside in.
Earn time for electronics. If you absolutely cannot get your group outside, the only logical thing to do is threaten them with their electronic devices – with the loss of, that is. They can earn electronics time by going outside. For example, 30 minutes of outside play equals 10 minutes of time earned for electronics. If you are feeling lenient, let them take their electronics outside… at least they will be getting fresh air.
Drag out the forgotten toys. As soon as the sun is out and the day is warm, take the bubbles on their maiden voyage for the season. The tub of outside toys has been sitting there all winter; now it is time to play.
Enjoy your time outside and your time together… it goes by fast. So make this spring your best yet!
