Running your own business is tough. It can be hard to push forward every single day when the only person you can rely on is yourself. When things go wrong, it can be even harder because there is no one to blame but yourself. So what can you do to make it easier? Develop a little confidence in yourself.
As Marcus Garvey said: “With confidence, you have won before you started.” You need to believe in yourself and then you will be able to succeed. Simple actions can help you get negative thoughts out of your head, de-stress and feel good about your abilities. Here are a few activities we recommend:
Dance breaks! Get up out of that chair and shake it until you feel better! It’s easy – and it’s healthy. Find your tune and break loose!
An anthem! How do you feel when you hear Eye of the Tiger? Inspired? Ready to fight? Find a song that gets you excited and ready to tackle the world – then play it when you need a boost.
Scream it out! Research actually supports screaming as a means of stress relief. Do you drive to work every morning? Why not give it a try? Get all the negative energy out and you’ll be ready to give your goals your best efforts.
Sleep on it. Your confidence will always feel weaker when you are tired. Learn to manage your time and take a break when you are exhausted. Go home and take a rest. If that isn’t an option, close your office door and turn off the light for a short afternoon nap. Or head to your car. You’ll come back refreshed and believing that you can do it!
Building your confidence doesn’t have to be hard. Little actions like these can help. But even better than these tricks is recognizing your accomplishments. When you work alone, there isn’t anyone there to say, “Good job; keep up the good work.” So you need to learn to own those moments and take pride in your accomplishments!
